I have to almost dime the preamp on the JCM to get that screamin lead tone, but then can't switch back to the low input and get the same volume for a clean channel. an A+B switcher for low-sensitivity to high sensitivity input switching, not sure yet. I have to confess that the JVM has the JCM beat in that it is a multi-channel switcher, and it does have a ton of high gain built right into it.and actually, the CLEAN channel of the JVM is quite beautiful, and I believe has the JCM beat in the clean department.I do not think I will be able to get a both clean and a hot lead sound at the same time out of the JCM.I'll need to look into this more, i.e. Nkay: You are exactly right! I got to try both of the heads last night and for my personal taste, the JCM just, well, HOLY SH*T!!! The JCM just blew me away. Do I really get that much more of that "vintage", organic, feel, or do they both do it well in their own way.just personal preference. I think the JVM is frickin awesome by the way, and I think this just comes down to seeing whether or not the JCM really can give me something that the JVM just cannot, tone-wise.(aside from multi-channel, versatility, etc). Please note that this test run is also somewhat biased & limited to what I have on hand, since I already bought the JVM.this test of mine partly arose from several threads about the JVM I had read, and it seemed that lots of guys seemed to prefer the JCM over JVM, and so I just had to find out for myself. I see what you are saying though, as a "flagship" benchmark comparison of the JVM line vs JCM for the intent of my proposed argument, the JS should have been used.and so the jury would of course then still be out for JS version vs. No doubt the JVM gives me all the channel switching options and flexibility too.I wonder if it will actually come down to the JCM and JVM tones are close "enough", and that the versatility will push me towards the JVM, but we'll see. I will post my results here later this week to let you know how it goes, but I couldn't help but want to post here to see how everyone here would chime in.which one do you think is better in your opinion? Any bets as to which one I'll like better? Thanks All!!!ĭamn guys, thanks for the info.yes I saw that the Satch head apparently is an improvement over the standard JVM, but unfortunately I won't be able to get one for this test run anyway.but good to know for reference I suppose that the JS may have been a better comparison. I have the JVM right now, and the JCM 800 2203X is due in my hands tomorrow afternoon. The only true way to settle this debate is hear both of them, in person thru my own gear & cab. Well, let's just say it was too much for me to bear to do either, so I am going to do a relatively expensive experiment.get BOTH! I figure I can take advantage of GC's 30 day return policy and return the one I end up not liking as much. So either way, I'll always be using that old plexi sound as the basis for the tone in the back of my mind. ![]() ![]() I play a wide array of styles, hard rock/metal/classic rock, blues, some new top 40 country even (which as a lot of hard rock guitar in it lately), so I thought the JVM would be best, but I also am kind of a purist if you will.I used to have a 50W 1987, sold it, and regretted it ever since. OR, take another leap of faith and go pick up that local JVM 410H head at the Guitar Center down the street, and always wonder what that JCM 800 would have been like. Turns out though, they are hard to find at stores, and the best way to get one seems to be to order a new 2203X sight unseen (unheard!), based just on faith and what I read online or see in crappy YouTube vids, or get lucky and find one at a local mom & pop music store, etc. Well, I just had to join the forum because I thought I would be able to contribute the ultimate JVM vs JCM 800 shootout.īased on what I have heard over the years, it sounds like the JCM 800 100W is one of the most iconic heads ever, especially for a hard rock sound. this forum, and Youtube, etc., for days with regard to the pros & cons of which Marshall head would be the best to own, given I had to settle on just one. I have been literally pouring through the web, i.e.
